Essentials for Guitar Students
I highly recommend watching deciding between ukulele and guitar to anyone new to the guitar. For a better understanding of what to expect watch before starting guitar lessons.
- A Guitar
For young beginner students, I recommend an electric or a nylon string acoustic guitar. Steel-string acoustic guitars are hard for small and young hands. However, if that’s what you have, don’t buy something else! We can work with it but be aware it can be a bit more uncomfortable and will require more practice to build finger strength. I can provide recommendations within your budget during our first lesson. - Humidifier for Acoustic Guitars
D’Addario makes two excellent options. The GHP Acoustic Guitar Humidifier (Amazon ) and the Humidipak system (Amazon). - Bag or Case
Please transport your instrument in a bag or a case. Not only does it protect your instrument, but it also protects items from inevitable contact. - Capo
The D’Addario Pro Plus (Amazon) or NS Tri Action capo (Amazon). These are great because they have an adjustable tension spring. Other capos will over-tension the strings and make the guitar sound out of tune. - Guitar Picks
Any standard medium-weight pick will do. (Amazon) - Tuner
Make sure you turn the power off on the tuner when done. The batteries drain fast! (Amazon) - Short Fingernails on the Left Hand

Essentials for Piano Students
Please contact me before purchasing piano books! I use the Piano Pronto series. I have them on-hand.
Here are my recommendations for beginners. You will still need a stand, bench, and sustain pedal. If you would like to shop yourself, please look for an 88-key piano with weighted keys.

Start with a music discovery session
Our 15-minute music consult is a relaxed, no-pressure opportunity to explore music lessons for you (or your child). Meetings are held in our music studio so you can get a feel for the space, ensuring it’s a comfortable, welcoming environment where you (and your child) feel safe and supported.
During this session, we’ll chat about your goals for the lessons so that we can find the best starting point. We’ll also discuss musical interests—favorite genres, songs, or artists—and how we can make lessons engaging and fun by incorporating those. By the end of the session, you’ll have a clear understanding of what to expect.
