Newbies are the best

We love teaching beginner music lessons. Ukulele and piano are our favorite starter instruments because most people can play a song after a few lessons and regular practice.

Benefits of playing music

Nothing beats the feeling of conquering a song after repeated  practice.

Music creates connections in your brain

Studies show that learning and playing music enhances memory and problem-solving abilities. Music is the one thing that activates just about all parts of the brain. If you don’t use it, you lose it! Regardless of your age, learning music will help with mental ability.

Music makes you happy

Music can make you feel better or let you express your emotions. Cranking your favorite tunes is the best way to disconnect from everyday chaos and focus on something that makes you feel good. Plus, playing music is much more rewarding than watching tv or playing video games.

Music teaches patience and discipline

Playing an instrument well requires consistent practice. Today, many young students are used to getting an immediate reward without much effort. There’s a point with every instrument that things get hard. Learning to stick with it and realize you can do hard things develops confidence for your entire life.

Student success stories

Emma F – 15-year-old / guitar

Emma had always dreamed of playing guitar. For her 14th birthday, her grandparents gave her an acoustic guitar, and she was so excited to start learning. She tried online lessons but quickly got frustrated. Knowing how much it meant to her; her parents signed her up for private lessons. Emma’s a huge Taylor Swift fan, but she couldn’t play any of her favorite songs.

At our first lesson, we decided to start with a method book since she was missing some key fundamentals. We spent the first few weeks nailing down the basics and building good habits. Once those were in place, we jumped into learning Taylor Swift songs. After a few months, Emma could play just about any of her favorite songs with minimal difficulty.

Ted R – 8-year-old / ukulele

Ted had been showing an interest in music for a few months, especially the guitar. His family isn’t particularly musical, and his parents were understandably hesitant about making a big investment for someone so young, especially since Ted’s focus tends to last just a few minutes at a time.

At our first lesson, we realized the ukulele was the perfect fit for him. Its smaller size made it much easier for Ted to handle, and his parents appreciated the lower cost. Best of all, Ted was thrilled to know that everything he learns on the ukulele can easily transfer to the guitar when he’s ready.

Debbie M – 70-year-old / guitar

Debbie has been playing guitar for about 20 years and loves writing songs to perform solo. While she’s picked up a lot from friends and videos over the years, she feels her playing has become too generic, and her songs all sound the same. She’s eager to dive deeper into chord progressions and music theory to take her music to the next level.

In our first lessons, we worked on refining her technique, starting with some adjustments to her picking hand to eliminate bad habits. Then, we explored some well-known songs outside of her usual open chord style to expand her repertoire. From there, we focused on building finger strength and flexibility, helping her master clean and confident barre chords. Debbie’s already feeling more inspired, and her songs are sounding fresher than ever!

We recommend all students

Start with a music discovery session

Our 15-minute music consult is a relaxed, no-pressure opportunity to explore music lessons for you (or your child). Meetings are held in our music studio so you can get a feel for the space, ensuring it’s a comfortable, welcoming environment where you (and your child) feel safe and supported.

During this session, we’ll chat about your goals for the lessons so that we can find the best starting point. We’ll also discuss musical interests—favorite genres, songs, or artists—and how we can make lessons engaging and fun by incorporating those. By the end of the session, you’ll have a clear understanding of what to expect.
